How can I put an avi. on windows movie maker? i tried to download a codec pack but its messing up please help.

I want to put an avi. on windows movie maker but its telling me "cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again." what codec would i need to download to put an avi on windows movie maker?

Download a program that will tell you what codecs you have on your system and what a specific video file requires. I use the gspot codec info appliance, bad name but a good program. Even this may not help since movie maker is finicky. If you’re trying to edit or re-encode an AVI there are better options either to buy or as freeware. If you want to use WMM then run gspot to find the missing codec, then google that codec and install it. I’d suggest not installing a codec pack, you may pick up a trojan or at least slow down your system with many unnecessary codecs.
