stereo test Windows Move Maker PASSES

Stereo version: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=iXlq3eBHgyo&fmt=18

If that loads as mono for you, ensure your flash player is up to date (at least newer than 9.0 r45).

This is a stereo test with Windows Move Maker converting a 30fps MPEG4 MP3 480×360 video to 25fps 768×576 which Youtube then downconverts (back!) to 480×360.

Result: Passes. But changes fps and size (unnecessarily).

After I found youtube converts stereo to mono for uploaded videos, I looked at danbergam’s video:

Stereo test V2.0 – Pt.4/4 – Long WMV *PASSED*

To test your flash player can load stereo see http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=BnN3TdgFYpY&fmt=18 or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDjXGU75_P0&fmt=18

I saw that he used Windows Movie Maker (WMM). His stereo video required Flash Player version 9.0 r124 – with Flash 9.0 r45 Youtube delivers only the mono version.

So, this is my first ever test using WMM.

Annoyances with WMM:
* it insists on changing the pixel size, mainly from the Youtube 480 by 360 to 768 by 576 pixels.
* it changes the frame rate to 25
* these have the effect of muddying the video, but not as much as Youtube does

Results: …waiting…

    No, but stereo …
No, but stereo songs do, I just spent 20 mins listening to a remastered beatles album and that was very clearly stereo. then i listened to another one on youtube that was clearly in stereo. I even listened to one in mono to test (not quite sure what outcome I was going for there…)

    I just retested and …
I just retested and YouTube still streams this in stereo. Examine the saved file in your browser cache with a media analyzer. Also the stereo sounds when using Shockwave Flash version 10.0.32.18 on Firefox 3.5.3 on Vista. Do other stereo tests work for you?

    Ok, I’m referring …
Ok, I’m referring to my Stereo Test V2.0, Part 4/4.
Looking in the Advanced properties of the WMV file I’ve uploaded there’s written:
    Audio – Bitrate: 1011 kbps
If I’m not wrong, the mp3s are considered quite good when they are coded with a bitrate at least greater than 128 kbps…

    I just copy and …
I just copy and paste the details from the software!
The audio on your stereo uploads look to be around 125 kbps – is that too low for good sound? What audio bitrate did you upload? All the recent HQ uploads seem to have 125 for audio, including those that uploaded 320 kbps.

    Great attention to …
    Great attention to the details.
Yes, WMM should introduce, in its rendering panel, some more options to customize…
What bothers me the most, now that we have found this way to still hear the stereo, is that the audio is heavily compressed (or, at least, this is what happened to my last upload when heard in stereo)… and this, when speaking about music, is really annoying… I understand that YT is free, but that compression was just unnecessary! :-\
    Great test!

    Stereo version: see …
Stereo version: see description or add &fmt=18 to the URL

If that still loads as mono for you, ensure your flash player is up to date (at least newer than 9.0 r45, I found r124 was necessary).
